Counselors
About Me – Janet Martinez, LPC
Hi, I’m Janet Martinez, a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 25 years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families cut through the noise, face what’s not working, and create real change. Whether you’re stuck in a cycle of anxiety or burnout, navigating a painful breakup, working through relationship struggles, or simply feeling like life isn’t lining up with who you really are—I’m here to help.
I take a no-BS, compassionate approach to counseling. That means I’ll always meet you with empathy and respect, but I won’t sugarcoat things or let you stay stuck in patterns that aren’t serving you. Together, we’ll get to the heart of what’s going on and work on real strategies to help you move forward.
My work is rooted in trauma-informed care, emotional regulation, and helping people improve the way they show up—for themselves and in their relationships. I’ve had real success helping clients rebuild after divorce, improve communication, manage anxiety and depression, and completely reinvent their lives in a way that feels aligned and authentic.
At the core of everything I do is a simple belief: you deserve to live a life that actually feels good to you—not just the one you were told you should want. If you’re ready to stop settling and start creating something more, I’d be honored to walk with you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept my insurance?
At the moment, we are credentialed with most major insurances including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna Healthcare, UMR, and UnitedHealthcare. If you have any questions, please inquire and we will be happy to check your insurance.
Do you accept Medicare/Medicaid?
We do not accept any Medicare or Medicaid plans at this time.
Do you offer virtual/telehealth sessions?
Yes, we offer virtual/telehealth sessions as well as in-person sessions.
Do you accept EAP (Employee Assistance Program)?
We do not accept EAP for any services at this time.
How does couples counseling work?
Couples counseling works a little differently at JCM Counseling. Due to the intense nature and duration of the work, insurance is not accepted for couples counseling. You begin with a two hour intensive session to uncover the dynamics of the relationship. Then each partner has individual sessions as a safe space to discuss individual perspectives, concerns, and goals. The couple then reconvenes for subsequent sessions with individual sessions scheduled on an as needed basis.
Do you offer documentation for emotional support animals?
No, at the moment we are not credentialed or certified to provide documentation for emotional support animals.
What are your fees?
Fees are generally based on your personal insurance benefits and patient responsibility concerning co-pays, etc. The self-pay rate is $200 per session.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require a minimum of 24 hours notice for any cancellations to waive any fees. Due to the fact insurance companies cannot be charged any amount for a cancellation, any appointment cancellations with less than 24 hours notice is subject to the self-pay rate in its entirety. We understand emergencies arise and we work on a case by case basis.
How do I schedule my first appointment?
Simply go to jcmcounseling.com/contact and fill out/submit your information. Someone will reach out via text within 48 hours to get you scheduled and answer any questions you may have.
What if I need my counselor to testify in court?
If it is determined that your attorney requires the counselor appear in court, please be advised a minimum of seven days notice is required. A fee is required for the appearance as the counselor must reschedule client appointments for that day and must also be compensated for other costs. Also note, the counselor can only testify regarding information provided during counseling sessions and cannot offer opinions on matters such as determining child custody, etc.
Do you offer therapy for children or adolescents?
At the moment, we only see clients who are aged 14 or older. If you need a referral from us for a child younger than that, feel free to contact us and we can provide you with that information.
Can therapy help with coping skills or emotional regulation?
Therapy can be highly effective in helping individuals develop coping skills and enhance emotional regulation. Through various therapeutic techniques and approaches, therapists work with clients to identify and understand their emotions, manage stress, regulate intense feelings, and develop healthy coping strategies.
What should I do if I am in crisis or need immediate help?
If you are in need of immediate assistance you can visit your local emergency room or reach out for help by dialing or texting 988, which is the suicide and crisis lifeline.
Are therapy sessions confidential, even for minors?
Therapy sessions are conducted in strict confidentiality, unless there is a potential threat to the safety of the client or others, or when legal obligations necessitate disclosure. Your privacy is a top priority, and any information shared during therapy is kept confidential to ensure a safe and trusting therapeutic environment.
Under the law, parents are allowed access to any medical records of a minor client. Specific session details are kept confidential between the minor client and the therapist with the exception of threat to self or others.
Do you offer therapy sessions on weekends or evenings?
At this time, we do not offer any weekend or evening appointments after 5:00. Exceptions are only made in a crisis situation.
If your question was not answered, please send us a message at info@jcmcounseling.com and we will be happy to give you an answer.
